The detective assigned to the case was a young homicide cop, Jean Francois Abgrall. He became convinced that the murderer was a weird drifter called Francis Heaulmes who, despite an alibi, kept dropping mysterious hints. Abgrall recounts how he trailed Heaulmes through France to bring him to justice.
